PESHAWAR: At least seven people were killed and 33 others injured in separate incidents of roof and wall collapses caused by heavy rain and strong winds across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the past 24 hours.
According to a damage assessment report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the casualties occurred in various districts, including Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra.
The PDMA said the deceased included two children, four men and one woman, while the injured comprised seven men, 12 women and 14 children.
Meanwhile, authorities have warned of a potential Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk in the upper parts of the province as rising temperatures and recent rainfall have accelerated glacier melting, increasing the threat of flash floods.
Deputy commissioners in Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra have been directed to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures. The PDMA warned that low-lying areas could face flooding and instructed district administrations to continuously monitor vulnerable locations.
Officials have also been directed to ensure timely warnings and evacuation of residents in high-risk areas. Citizens have been advised to avoid riverbanks, seasonal streams and locations with strong water currents during the ongoing weather conditions.
