The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested Dr. Shaukat Bangash, CEO of Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, along with six others allegedly linked to an illegal human kidney transplant network.
According to local media reports, FIA officials arrested Dr Bangash, CEO and owner of Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, over allegations of involvement in illegal kidney transplantation activities.
The FIA said Bangash was allegedly involved in an illegal kidney transplant operation and was arrested following identification by suspects already in custody.
According to the agency, six suspects linked to the alleged illegal kidney transplant network have already been arrested. Those detained include kidney transplant surgeon Dr Nadir and transplant coordinator Adeel Shirazi.
The FIA said the Islamabad High Court has rejected the post-arrest bail applications of the arrested suspects.
Dr Bangash is accused of allegedly facilitating and managing illegal kidney transplant activities, the agency said.
In a statement, the FIA said its investigation would determine the possible involvement of the hospital administration and other individuals in the alleged network.
The agency added that the arrested suspect would be presented before the relevant court to seek physical remand for further investigation.
