The Punjab University administration, in coordination with local police, launched a large-scale operation to evict illegal occupants from the university’s hostels.
During the crackdown, numerous unauthorized residents were expelled, and their belongings were seized. The operation involved extensive raids across 17 male and 11 female hostels on campus.
Sources confirmed that all hostels will be sealed by April 8, and entry will be restricted strictly to students who have been officially allotted rooms. Non-allotted individuals will not be allowed access under any circumstances.
This marks the first such action in nearly 20 years against illegal occupancy in the university’s hostels. Many of the unauthorized residents were reportedly affiliated with various student organizations that had been occupying rooms without approval.
The university administration stated that the hostels have a total capacity of 8,000 students, and the move aims to ensure that legitimate students receive fair access to accommodation.
Officials further warned that strict action will be taken against any individuals attempting to re-enter the hostels without official authorization after the April 8 deadline.
