In a compassionate move to support children battling type-I congenital diabetes, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially inaugurated the “CM Insulin for Diabetes” program — a free insulin distribution initiative aimed at easing the burden on low-income families across the province.
Demonstrating hands-on leadership, CM Maryam Nawaz personally joined Pakistan Post riders to deliver insulin packages to the homes of diabetic children. In an emotional gesture, she handed over insulin kits, glucometers, BSR test strips, and needles to young patients, symbolizing the Punjab government’s commitment to children’s healthcare.
While interacting with families during the home visits, the chief minister expressed deep empathy for parents of diabetic children. “As a mother, I can feel the pain, anxiety, and helplessness families face when their child suffers from a chronic illness like diabetes,” she said. “This program is a response to the heartfelt pleas of parents who cannot afford life-saving medication for their children.”
Maryam Nawaz affirmed that under her “Sehatmand Punjab” (Healthy Punjab) vision, no child will be deprived of treatment due to financial constraints. “Children’s health is the top priority of my government. They are the future of our nation, and all available resources are being mobilized for their well-being.”
She further stressed that for the first time in Punjab’s history, diabetic children are being given not just insulin, but a complete diabetic care kit including glucometers and testing strips — crucial tools for day-to-day management of the disease.
Officials briefed the chief minister on the rollout of the programme, which in its first phase will cover 1,500 children diagnosed with type-I diabetes. Insulin doses, sufficient for three months, will be delivered directly to their homes via Pakistan Post under a secure cold chain system to ensure the medicine’s efficacy.
Each child enrolled in the program receives a CM Insulin Card, which is scanned through a specially designed mobile app by Pakistan Post riders for identity verification and medicine dispatch.
The initiative not only brings free medical aid but also eliminates the burden of travel for families from remote or underserved areas.
The CM Insulin for Diabetes program is being lauded as a model of integrated digital governance and compassionate healthcare. It brings together public health infrastructure, digital verification, and postal logistics to address a pressing pediatric health crisis.
With the prevalence of juvenile diabetes on the rise in Pakistan, experts believe this step could set a new benchmark in healthcare delivery — combining accessibility, affordability, and accountability.
The chief minister concluded by reaffirming her administration’s resolve to expand the programme province-wide, ensuring that every child who needs insulin gets it — free of cost and at their doorstep.
