The Punjab Government is set to expand Lahore’s metro train network with the introduction of the Blue and Purple Line Metro Train services, as reported by a private TV channel on Saturday.
Estimated to cost Rs14.5 trillion, these new projects represent a significant investment, comprising nearly half of the total budget allocated for the province.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has forwarded proposals for both the Blue and Purple Line Train Projects to the Punjab government for approval. The formulation of PC-1 for these mega projects will commence upon the Punjab government’s endorsement.
Documents reveal that a comprehensive briefing on the cost and planning of the Blue and Purple Line projects was arranged for Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, and her Cabinet.
The Purple Line Metro Train project, estimated at around 577 billion rupees, is designed to span 16 kilometers between the airport and Bhati Chowk, encompassing 16 stations. It is projected that 250,000 citizens will utilize this route daily.
On the other hand, the Blue Line Train Project, estimated at approximately 872 billion rupees, will stretch over 27 kilometers from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Interchange, incorporating 28 stations. This extensive route is expected to cater to the daily commute of around 400,000 citizens.
With these ambitious projects, the Punjab Government aims to further enhance the public transportation infrastructure in Lahore, facilitating smoother and more efficient travel for its residents.
