Punjab govt imposes smart lockdown in 33 more areas

LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed a smart lockdown in several neighborhoods of Lahore after an increase of COVID-19 cases.

According to a notification, a smart lockdown has been imposed in 33 areas in Lahore for two weeks.

“Pillion riding is banned while only one person of the household can leave the house for buying food and medicines and has to show CNIC to the law enforcement officers,” said the notification.

136,669 individuals have been infected with #Covid19 in Punjab till 10 pm December 28, 2020. 522 new #coronavirus cases have been detected, 12,574 tests performed while 38 lives have been lost in last 24 hrs 3,959 lives in total have been lost while 122,652 people have recovered

Some of the areas where a smart lockdown has been imposed include Johar Town, DHA phase 1, 3, 5 and 8, Iqbal Town, Askari 8 and 10, Valencia Town and Samanabad.

In the last 24 hours, Punjab reported 522 new cases taking the tally to 136,669. Out of these 290 were reported in Lahore. So far, Lahore has reported 67,275 coronavirus cases and 1,564 deaths. Another 63 people have died in Pakistan due to the coronavirus and the total death toll has risen to 9,992 on Tuesday.

According to the National Command and Control Center, 1,776 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 475,085. In Pakistan, 425,494 coronavirus patients have recovered and 39,599 are undergoing treatment.

The National Command and Operations Center said the rate of coronavirus positive cases across the country has risen to 6.13%. Abbottabad coronavirus is at the forefront of positive cases where the rate has reached 15.95 percent.

Karachi corona’s positive case rate is 14.18 percent. Hyderabad 14.47 percent, Islamabad 5.94 percent, Punjab 4.6 percent, and coronavirus positive cases in Sindh are 8.61 percent.
