The Punjab government has imposed an indefinite ban on meetings with former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other inmates at Adiala Jail.
According to local media reports, the ban will remain in place until further notice, with the jail administration acting on orders from the provincial government.
Earlier, the government had prohibited visits to prisoners from October 4 to 18, later extending the ban by two days. While the ban has been attributed to security concerns for high-profile political prisoners, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, it applies to all inmates.
Last week, Imran Khan’s personal physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, was denied access to examine him. When Dr. Hussain arrived at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, he had to leave without conducting the check-up.
Imran, 72, has been in jail since August 2023, although several convictions against him have been overturned.
