LAHORE: Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari on Sunday suspended the Secretary and other officials of the provincial assembly.
It may be recalled that a ruckus erupted in the Punjab Assembly on Saturday as it was about to conduct elections of the chief minister during which Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi – who was a candidate for the chief minister – was also injured while five MPAs were arrested.
Taking action against poor conduct in the election of Chief Minister, the Deputy Speaker has suspended Secretary Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti, Secretary Parliamentary Affairs Inayat Lak, Special Secretary Amir Habib and Chief Security Officer Akbar Nasir.
Mazari issued a show cause notice seeking a reply, while senior officers were also barred from entering the Assembly premises and a notification of suspension orders was issued on April 16. The Deputy Speaker suspended the officers for not cooperating in the election of the Chief Minister and for negligence in their duties during the Assembly commotion.
On Saturday, Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari arrived in the Punjab Assembly hall to preside over the sessionand was manhandled by PTI and PML-Q lawmakers. Security staff and members of the opposition rescued the deputy speaker after which he returned to his office.
Later, Pervaiz Elahi also suffered a broken armed and claimed that Hamza Shahbaz was behind the attack over him. Hamza Shehbaz was subsequently declared the Chief Minister after securing 197 votes.
