In an effort to reduce pollution and promote green transportation, the Government of Punjab has approved an e-taxi project, with a pilot phase comprising 1,100 electric taxis and solar-powered charging stations set to launch soon.
The initiative was announced during a special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
While reviewing the feasibility report of the Yellow Line mass transit system, the Chief Minister directed that routes most convenient for the public be prioritized. The meeting also approved the project’s financial model and authorized the pilot program of 1,100 e-taxis.
Approval was also granted for the installation of solar-powered systems at e-charging stations.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed that construction on the Yellow Line project commence without delay.

The meeting included a detailed review of the e-taxi project, during which it was revealed that the government will provide financial assistance under the scheme. Officials also discussed the proposal to install charging stations at existing petrol pumps to improve accessibility.
