In a significant move to ease the financial burden on commuters, Punjab has announced a substantial reduction in transport fares following a recent decrease in petrol prices. The directive comes from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
A new fare schedule has been implemented for private transport across 37 cities in Punjab, with reductions ranging from Rs 40 to Rs 250, benefiting passengers on various routes.
To combat overcharging, the government has vowed to take strict action against violators. Authorities have begun conducting checks throughout the province to enforce the new fare structure. Recently, 30 vehicles were stopped for overcharging, resulting in fines totaling Rs 358,500 imposed on those found in violation.
These measures are part of the government’s commitment to provide immediate relief to the public and ensure fair transport services. The Punjab government will continue to monitor compliance with the new fare rates, ensuring that all transport operators adhere to the revised guidelines.
It should be noted that petrol and diesel prices have witnessed a significant decrease in the last one and a half months.
