Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has canceled its D-Chowk protest scheduled for October 15 because of the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled to begin today.
The PTI’s political committee decided in a meeting in which most participants urged to withdraw the protest call for Tuesday (tomorrow) given the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting on October 15-16.
In a video message, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said that they are putting off their protest call after the government’s assurance that a team of doctors will visit PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.
He said the PTI workers were worried about the well-being of the former premier after no one was allowed to meet him after October 3.
He said in the wake of the SCO summit, the government requested them to put off their protest and has assured the visit of doctors tomorrow.
Earlier this month PTI tried to stage a sit-in in D-Chowk, however, the government foiled its bid and arrested hundreds of political workers.
