Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan to showcase its political strength. Chief Organizer Aliya Hamza has been appointed to organize the rally on February 8, and she has submitted a written request for permission to the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore.
According to national media reports on Wednesday, the request states that PTI wishes to hold a rally at Greater Iqbal Park Ground on February 8 and requests the issuance of an NOC (No Objection Certificate).
The organizing committee for the rally includes Chief Organizer Aliya Hamza, Opposition Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar, and Ali Ijaz Butt. PTI sources say that if permission is not granted, the party will launch nationwide protests.
PTI protests have consistently drawn large crowds across Pakistan, captivating the attention of a broad audience. The party’s leadership, especially Imran Khan, has a charismatic appeal that resonates with a significant segment of the population, including youth, professionals, and rural communities.
However, the dynamics of PTI’s public image and its ability to rally support shifted drastically after the riots on May 9, 2023. The violent incidents, which saw widespread destruction and chaos, deeply impacted the party’s reputation and its relationship with the general public. Once celebrated as a symbol of change and hope, the PTI leadership, especially Imran Khan, faced significant backlash for the violence and the ensuing political unrest.
