Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former special assistant to Prime Minister Sania Nishtar resigned from the Senate seat on Wednesday.
As per sources, Nishtar has joined a job in an international organization in Geneva due to which she resigned from the seat. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance had appointed Dr Sania Nishtar as its new Chief Executive Officer earlier this year.
Nishtar who was elected Senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021 is known for her work in health and social welfare. Nishtar has sent her resignation to the Senate secretariat.
Sania Nishtar a physician by profession, previously served as Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with the status of federal minister, and chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Ehsaas Programme.
She had also served previously in the interim federal cabinet in 2013 overseeing public health, education, and science. PTI has yet to react to her resignation.
