LONDON: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa reportedly faced harassment and an attempted attack by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters during his visit to the United Kingdom.
Justice Isa was in London to attend a ceremony held in his honor at Middle Temple by The Honourable Society, making him the first Pakistani judge to be invited to their prestigious Tuesday dinner.
While en route to the event, PTI activists reportedly gathered in protest. As Isa’s vehicle—provided by Pakistan’s High Commission—made its way to Middle Temple, protesters attempted to obstruct it. Some reportedly tried to smash the car’s windows, chanting slogans and briefly blocking its path despite a police escort.
The protest was led by PTI leaders Zulfi Bukhari, Malika Bukhari, and Azhar Mashwani, who addressed the gathered crowd near Middle Temple, voicing opposition to Isa’s judicial record.
The event at Middle Temple, organized to mark Isa’s significant international standing, proceeded without incident to him or his wife, Sarina Isa. The protest subsided with no serious altercation reported.
This is not the first time PTI supporters have confronted a judge in London. Last year, Judge Humayun Dilawar, who convicted PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, also faced harassment from PTI supporters in the UK.
