ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Thursday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI)’s members were ready to jump ship, because of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s “failures”.
Talking to journalists outside Islamabad High Court (IHC), Maryam stated that PM Imran’s party did not have any ideology, or ideologues, or any commitment and that it was evident that the party and its people were sinking.
“I sincerely advise the premier and his party members to wear helmets while in public, or climb atop containers to protect themselves from angry citizens, who are waiting to grab them by their necks,” Maryam remarked.
She claimed that PTI’s parliamentarians were ready to jump ship. Conversely, she said that the PML-N was united under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, despite his inability to return home the PML-N remained strong and stable.
Talking about the no-confidence motion, Maryam said the situation for tabling the motion against the Prime Minister was now “favourable”, and asked PTI members to stop backing the party in view of the “changed situation”.
Maryam admitted that Nawaz was initially not in favour of a no-confidence move against the government. However, she said, “party members pressed him that people’s wishes ought to be listened to as it is the only way to steer the country out of crisis.”
The PML-N leader further maintained that the people were the priority and that it was the duty of political parties to save the country and the nation from the “torment” being inflicted on them.
“If the opposition does not respond to the voice of the people then political parties will be equally guilty,” she said, reiterating that working for the welfare of the people was their biggest responsibility.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had met PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam last week in Lahore and agreed to leave their differences behind for sending Imran Khan home and pledged to weigh all options to achieve the goal, including a no-confidence move and a joint long march.
It was reported two days ago that PML-N’s Central Executive Committee meeting on Monday remained unable to decide on moving a no-confidence motion against the PTI government, leaving it to supreme party leader Nawaz Sharif to take a call on the matter when he deems appropriate.
