ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed foreign funding case against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A petition prepared by the PTI MNA Farukh Habib was submitted in the ECP stating that former JUI-F leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmed has admitted that Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other party leaders frequently visited Libya and Iraq and received funding from there.

While speaking to media outside the ECP after submitting the application, PTI Leader Farrukh Habib has said a probe should be conducted into the foreign funding of JUI-F. The application was filed in the ECP along with the transcript of Hafiz Hussain Ahmed’s interview.

He said leaders such as Hafiz Hussain Ahmad are now making revelations that Maulana Fazlur Rehman received foreign funding from two countries. He said it is the opposition parties who actually laid the foundation of the foreign funding.

He said former JUI-F leader Maulana Muhammad Sherani should be called and requested ECP to summon Maulana Fazlur Rehman and inquire about funding. Habib said the ECP has summoned 19 parties and suggested Maulana Fazlur Rehman should submit receipts to the ECP.

The PTI had also submitted a new application seeking to expedite the scrutiny process against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in a foreign funding case. Farrukh Habib had submitted an application to ECP for conducting daily hearing of foreign funding case against the two parties.

Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked the opposition for highlighting the case and said that those trying to trap the PTI in the foreign funding case are now trapped themselves.

The prime minister has directed the government spokespersons to expose the opposition’s propaganda and said the government’s position in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) proved to be correct.

The foreign funding case has now become a key agenda of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) anti-government campaign in their attempt to oust the government. The opposition parties are demanding the ECP to not delay the case any further.
