Shaheen Shah Afridi’s five-wicket haul along with Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique’s blazing half-centuries helped Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi by 40 runs in Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Sunday.
Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore both scored scorching half-centuries, but Zalmi still fell 40 runs shy of pulling off the incredible victory.
Earlier, Qalandars had won the toss and opted to bat first against Peshawar Zalmi. Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique struck smashing half-centuries to power Lahore Qalandars to 241/3, the third-highest PSL total against Peshawar Zalmi.
The host team got off to a shaky start earlier when Wahab Riaz bowled youthful opener Tahir Baig (5), giving the Zalmi their first breakthrough.
Fakhar and Abdullah brought the Qalandars to 36/1 in the powerplay after an early setback, then launched a brutal counterattack on the Zalmi bowlers to calm things down.
Fakhar was the top-scorer for the Qalandars with 96 off just 45 balls with three boundaries and 10 sixes.
Wahab, who led the Zalmi’s bowling assault with two wickets, was pricey, giving up 45 runs in just four overs, while Powell only managed to claim one wicket.
