President Asif Ali Zardari visited Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the 50th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, in Lisbon, Portugal, to express his condolences following the death of Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV.
In his statement, the president remarked, “The entire nation grieves the loss of such an extraordinary individual.” He arrived in Lisbon on Monday specifically to convey his sympathies to Prince Rahim.
The president conveyed his “sincere condolences” regarding the demise of the late Aga Khan, underscoring the nation’s “profound sorrow for the loss of a distinguished humanitarian.”
He further stated that the news of the Aga Khan’s death has “deeply affected the nation.” The president acknowledged the late philanthropist’s significant contributions to the social and economic advancement of Pakistan, commending his “visionary leadership” that enhanced the lives of individuals in Pakistan and beyond.
The president shared that he was on an official visit to China when he received the news of the Aga Khan’s passing. He expressed that his visit to Lisbon was to honor the late Prince Karim Aga Khan’s “lifelong commitment to philanthropy and humanitarian efforts,” noting that his contributions to humanity would be eternally cherished.
The president expressed optimism that Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini would carry on his father’s legacy of serving humanity.
The Aga Khan IV was interred during a private burial ceremony in Aswan, Egypt, on Sunday, as reported by the community.
