KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi’s nephew has passed away from the novel coronavirus in Karachi.
Mutahir Alvi was admitted a private hospital after his condition worsened from COVID-19. His wife also remains in critical condition and is admitted to a private hospital located in Clifton.
It may be mentioned that the president himself had test positive for COVID-19 but went on to make a full recovery. He has repeatedly stressed on observed on observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and vaccination to control the spread of the disease.
Last Saturday, President Dr Arif Alvi chaired a high-level meeting at Sindh Governor House Karachi to review the measures taken by the government to contain further spread of Covid-19.
President Alvi expressed satisfaction and said that the people followed the COVID-19 SOPs on the occasion of Eidul Fitr in a good manner which was the success of the government’s strategy.
He said that the epidemic would soon be brought under control with the mutual cooperation of the government and masses.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar informed them about the progress and future strategies of the government regarding coronavirus and said a significant reduction in coronavirus cases is registered due to better strategy pursued by the government.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail commended people on showing responsibility during Eid. He said the observance of SOPs including the use of mask, sanitisers and observing social distancing could also help in preventing the spread of coronavirus
He further said that the steps taken by the federal government for containing the further spread of coronavirus were highly appreciable.
