KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) core committee met the other day to discuss the issue of dialogue among political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The meeting was attended by senior PPP leaders, including former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani, Secretary-General Syed Nayyer Bukhari, and CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, among others.
According to a press release issued after the meeting, the committee, jointly chaired by former president Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, stressed the importance of resolving conflicting court verdicts without impinging on the judiciary’s honour and prestige.
The PPP called for general elections for all assemblies to be held on the same day as provided for in the Constitution, emphasizing the importance of fair and free elections, says the press release.
The committee expressed its resolve to approach all parties in the coalition government to discuss the issue of dialogue among political parties, including the PTI. The secretary-general reiterated the meeting’s view that it was imperative to protect the “honor and prestige of the judiciary” and ensure that it was not impaired in any way.
The meeting was also attended by Naveed Qamar, Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sherry Rehman, Shazia Marri, Nisar Khurro, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, Humayun Khan, Faisal Karim Kundi, Akhunzada Chattan, and Farhatullah Babar. The PPP’s commitment to resolving conflicting court verdicts and ensuring free and fair elections is likely to be welcomed by many across the political spectrum.
