Senate Chairman and former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said the PPP had not been part of the federal cabinet in the past, nor would it be in the future.
Addressing the media in Islamabad on Sunday, Gilani said the PPP has a number of reservations regarding the current negotiations between his party and the PML-N. He said that everything will be shared with one and all once the deliberations are wrapped up.
Mr. Gilani emphasized the implementation of the written agreement between the government and the PPP in letter and spirit. He also wanted the dialogue to be the foundational base for resolving political disputes as it has been practiced in a civilized society where problems are solved through negotiations.
Stressing the imperatives of dialogue, he said that in spirit and letter, the agreement inked on paper between government and PPP should be adhered to. He also urged once again that negotiations constitute the cornerstone for resolving political wrangles, as problems besetting a civilized society ought to be resolved through constructive mutual dialogue.
Gilani served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2008-2012 and is remembered for his efforts to empower democratic institutions and the rule of parliamentary supremacy.
During his tenure, key reforms were introduced, such as the passing of the 18th Amendment, which gave far-reaching provincial autonomy and readjusted the balance of power between the parliament and executive.
His leadership was characterized by reconciliation and coalition building for which he earned respect as a consensus leader.
