ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court will resume the hearing of the Local Government and Municipal Committee powers case filed against Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Ali Nawaz Awan today.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani conducted the hearing in which Ali Nawaz Awan, Chief Commissioner, and CDA Chairman appeared before the court.
On behalf of the government, Advocate General Islamabad Niazullah Niazi, Additional Home Secretary, Islamabad Sheikh Nasir Aziz also appeared in the court while the Chief Commissioner briefed the court on the matter.
Giving remarks in the Local Government and Municipal Committee powers case, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said that there was no union council that worked.
During the hearing in the same case, the judge remarked that a local government commission has been constituted, and many decisions have been reluctant.
Moreover, the lawyer said that the CDA and MCI powers were constitutionally separate. Ali Nawaz Awan said that the local government held a meeting, which would submit a copy of the decision to the court.
Awan further said, “I was not called, but I have appeared for judicial assistance. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said the issue was to be resolved.
Advocate General Niazullah Niazi said that the court had frozen local government accounts, which halted all development work.
The court asked Assistant Special Ali Ali Nawaz Awan whether the Local Government Commission had exceeded its powers. Submit a written response to the matter until the next hearing.
