Karachi police obtained a two-day physical remand of Salman Farooqi and his co-accused in the DHA torture case on Tuesday.
As per details, the Gizri police presented the two accused in the court of Judicial Magistrate South Muzammil Ali Soomro in the City Court. The police requested the physical remand, on which the court granted a two-day physical remand and sought a progress report of the case at the next hearing.
The accused Salman Farooqi, and his accomplice were arrested after the video of the torture went viral. During the hearing, the court asked Salman Farooqi for the name of his lawyer, and he said that his lawyer was Naeem Qureshi. The court immediately summoned the lawyer, but due to his absence, the hearing was adjourned for 10 minutes.
Later, a pre-arrest bail application was also submitted by Salman Farooqi. His lawyer took the position that the provisions included in the case are bailable, including the section on making threats.
The police also submitted a preliminary report of the incident to the court. According to the report, the plaintiff, Muhammad Saleem, who is a sales manager in a mobile company, had gone to Ittehad Commercial for recovery, where he saw a minor accident involving a motorcycle and a car.
The report states that the car driver, Salman Farooqui, got angry over the minor accident and not only tortured the motorcycle rider but also locked the young man in the car at gunpoint along with his security guard. The women present with the victim pleaded with folded hands, but the car driver not only abused them but also pushed one of the women back. The video of the incident was made by the people present at the scene and uploaded on social media, after which the police took action.
