LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Muhammad Pervaiz Malik has passed after suffering a cardiac attack.
Pervaiz Malik, aged 73, was ill for quite some time and was seeking treatment for a heart ailment. He was PML-N President Lahore but had recused himself due to his ill health. University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Javed Akram said confirmed that Malik had died due to a heart attack.
The veteran PML-N leader and had been elected five times from Lahore. He had been elected as an MNA from Lahore’s NA-133 seat during the 2018 general elections.

Malik has been a member of the National Assembly since August 2018. Earlier, he also has served as Minister for Commerce and Textile in Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s cabinet from August 2017 to May 2018. Malik’s wife, Shaista Pervaiz and their son, Ali Pervaiz Malik, are both MNAs as well. He was the younger brother of former Attorney General Malik Qayyum.
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over Malik’s death and said the party had lost a highly “sincere leader and a good man”.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry expressed his condolenceover the PML-N leader’s demise. “Deeply saddened to hear about Pervaiz Malik sahab’s death. He was an honest and loving person. You will be missed. RIP,” he added.
PML-N MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt offered her condolences, referring to him as a true companion of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb also condoled Malik’s death and said she felt as if her own father or a senior citizen had passed away.
