PML-N leads in second phase of Azad Kashmir elections as vote count continues

A man votes during the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections at a polling station in Karachi, Pakistan, August 2, 2026. — Reuters

Vote counting is underway after polling concluded on 20 seats in the second phase of the Azad Kashmir Assembly elections held on Sunday.

According to unofficial and preliminary results, candidates of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have won 3 seats and are leading on 12 others. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won 1 seat and is leading on 4 seats.

A total of 21 constituencies were scheduled for polling in the second phase, including 9 seats in the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees. However, on Sunday morning, the Election Commission postponed polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I until August 4.

Polling in the 8 constituencies of the Muzaffarabad Division was held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but voting hours were later extended by one hour. Polling for the 12 refugee constituencies ended at 5:00 p.m. as scheduled.

According to the latest unofficial and preliminary results, PML-N is leading in 13 constituencies, while PPP is ahead in 3 constituencies.

Preliminary results also show that PML-N has won 2 refugee seats, while PPP has secured 1 refugee seat so far.

Preliminary Results: Refugee Constituencies

According to results received so far:

LA-34 Jammu-I: PML-N candidate Nasir Hussain Dar is leading.

LA-35 Jammu-II: PML-N candidate Ismail Gujar is leading.

LA-36 Jammu-III: PML-N candidate Ahsan Raza is leading.

LA-37 Jammu-IV: PML-N candidate Maryam Javed is leading.

LA-38 Jammu-V: PML-N candidate Zeeshan Younis Tanda is leading.

LA-39 Jammu-VI: PML-N candidate Raja Muhammad Siddique is leading.

LA-40 Valley-I: PPP candidate Aamir Abdul Ghaffar is leading.

LA-41 Valley-II: PML-N candidate Muhammad Amir Shah is leading.

LA-42 Valley-III: PPP candidate Asim Sharif Butt is leading.

LA-43 Kashmir Valley-IV

Unofficial results from all 10 polling stations show that PML-N candidate Muhammad Yaseen Lone won with 1,276 votes. PPP candidate Javed Butt finished second with 563 votes.

LA-43 Valley-IV: Muhammad Yaseen Lone (PML-N) won with 1,276 votes.

LA-44 Valley-V: Ahmad Raza Qadri (PML-N) won with 1,700 votes.

LA-45 Valley-VI: Abdul Majeed Khan (PPP) won with 3,708 votes.

Preliminary Results: Muzaffarabad Division

The Election Commission had extended polling in the Muzaffarabad Division until 6:00 p.m. Vote counting is now underway, and preliminary results are being released.

LA-25 Neelum-I: PML-N candidate Shah Ghulam Qadir is leading.

LA-26 Neelum Valley-II: PML-N candidate Shah Ghulam Qadir is leading.

LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I: Polling postponed until August 4.

LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II: Polling at 57 polling stations postponed until August 4.

LA-29 Muzaffarabad-III: PML-N candidate Iftikhar Gilani is leading.

LA-30 Muzaffarabad-IV: Dr. Mustafa Bashir (PML-N) won with 18,082 votes.

LA-31 Muzaffarabad-V: Results are being updated.

LA-32 Jhelum Valley-VI: PPP candidate Sahibzada Ashfaq Zafar is leading.

LA-33 Jhelum Valley-VII: PPP candidate Diwan Ali Chughtai is leading.

These are unofficial and preliminary results, which are being updated as more vote counts are received.
