ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will arrive in Karachi on a day-long visit today where he will announce a multi-billion rupee package for the rain-hit city.
Upon arrival, the prime minister will visit the Governor House where he will preside over Karachi Transformation Plan committee meeting. He will also address a press conference at the Governor House where the plan is expected to be announced.
The prime minister is also expected to hold a separate meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. However, a spokesman on the Chief Minister’s House said they have not been informed about the prime minister’s visit.
PM Imran Khan is also scheduled to visit Pakistan Stock Exchange. He will also hold meetings with industrialists and businessmen during his stay in the city.
The prime minister is also expected to meet leaders of the coalition parties. A delegation of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM-P) is also expected to meet him.

PM Imran Khan is expected to announce an over Rs800 billion Karachi Transformation Plan during his visit including around 50 development projects.
The project relates to mass transport, road development, water and sanitation will be included in the transformation plan. Six mass transit projects costing Rs 447.45 billion will be announced including Rs300 billion for Karachi Circular Railway.
Sewerage and solid waste management projects are also included in the Karachi Transformation Plan to be announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Eight sewerage project costing around Rs 162.60 billion and four solid waste management project with an estimate of Rs 14.86 billion will be announced by the prime minister.
The plan also includes repair works of the road infrastructure with an estimated cost of Rs 62.30 billion while Rs 4.60 billion for two water drain projects.
