Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday condemned acts of violence and destruction in Balochistan, stating that those responsible are not only enemies of the province but of the entire country.
Addressing a federal cabinet meeting, the premier termed the opposition to Gwadar Port a direct affront to Pakistan’s sovereignty and economic future.
“Those fueling violence and destruction are not just targeting the people of Balochistan but demonstrating hostility towards Pakistan,” he remarked, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Gwadar project.
In a significant development, PM Shehbaz highlighted the inauguration of operations at Gwadar International Airport, a $230 million project funded by China.
Calling it a milestone for the region, he noted that the airport’s functionality could bolster Balochistan’s economy and relieve pressure on Karachi’s overburdened ports.
“Gwadar Airport is one of Pakistan’s major airports. Its utilization for business purposes will greatly benefit the economies of Balochistan and Pakistan,” he said, expressing gratitude to China for its financial support and partnership in the project.
He further stressed the need for national unity to safeguard Pakistan’s economic interests and critical infrastructure, such as Gwadar Port.
