ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s initiatives of “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East” to reduce carbon emissions and combat pollution and land degradation.
Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister shared his letter to the Crown Prince, offering support of Pakistan for these green initiatives. “Crown Prince’s vision closely aligns with Pakistan’s initiatives to protect it from effects of Climate Change,” the letter stated.

PM Imran pointed out that planting trees not only protects nature and restores ecosystem to fight climate change. “It also expands eco-tourism and creates thousands of green jobs for the youth,” he added.
“Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain close cooperation on climate change issues at all multilateral forums, a meaningful and structured bilateral engagement can help advance our shared vision,” the premier added.
He further said that challenge of climate change was one that calls for greater international collaboration and a shared aspiration for sustainable development. “The world has no choice but to treat this green pathway and define a new development paradigm for the 21st century,” he concluded.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in a statement, said, “The Saudi Green Initiative aims to reduce emissions by generating half of its energy from renewables by 2030.”
Saudi Arabia also plans to plant 10 billion trees in the kingdom in the coming decades. The new initiatives are part of the prince’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify the kingdom’s oil-reliant economy.
