ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has won the prestigious Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award for his contribution to cricket.
The Dubai-based award will be given to the premier next year. PM Imran Khan was chosen for the “International Sports Personality” category of the award for dedicating his life to sports. His captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team in 1992 when Pakistan won the World Cup has been particularly highlighted.
The ceremony of the eleventh edition of the MBR Creative Sports Award took place on Monday, November 22, at Deep Dive Dubai. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed, the Chairman of Dubai Sports Council was also present at the occasion.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award honours individuals, teams and organizations who have made significant sporting contributions in the United Arab Emirates and globally. It is designed to celebrate and promote the best initiatives in projects or programmes in the sporting field.
The Award, one of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives, was launched in 2009 and in 2021 offered Dhs7.5 million (US$2 million) in prize money. The 11th edition of the Award was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During an illustrious cricketing career spanning 21 years, Imran Khan played 88 tests and 175 one day internationals for Pakistan. He took 362 wickets and scored 3,807 runs in tests and 182 scalps and 3,709 runs in ODIs.
