The Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province, including Karachi, ahead of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). This measure comes at the request of IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon due to the Chehlum processions scheduled for August 26.
According to a letter from the provincial police chief dated August 8, the ban aims to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Chehlum and to prevent any incidents. The ban will be enforced at different times and dates in various districts:
- Karachi:
- South Range: August 25 to 27
- East Range: August 26
- West Range: August 25 and 26
- Hyderabad and Thatta: August 25 and 26
- Mirpurkhas: August 26 to 27
- Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar: August 26
- Sukkur Range: August 24 to 26
- District Khairpur: August 24 to 29
- Ghotki: August 26
- Larkana Range:
- District Larkana: August 26
- Kamber, Jacobabad, and Kashmore: August 25 and 26
Additionally, the provincial government has banned the use of drones during this period due to security concerns.
The Chehlum will be observed on Monday with religious fervor and heightened security. The event marks the end of a 40-day mourning period for the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in 680 AD. Mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah will be held in various cities throughout the province.
