KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-784, operating from Toronto to Karachi, was forced to return to Toronto Airport shortly after takeoff following a fire alarm warning in the cargo compartment.
According to the PIA spokesperson, the captain received a fire alarm warning indication in the cargo area while the aircraft was en route to Karachi.
Following standard safety procedures, the captain immediately contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and requested permission for an emergency landing.
Upon receiving clearance from ATC, the captain safely landed the aircraft back at Toronto Pearson International Airport. All passengers and crew were reported safe.
The spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft is currently being examined by the engineering team to determine the cause of the warning. Fire brigade personnel are also busy checking the cargo hold of the aircraft as part of the safety inspection.
PK-784 Emergency Return: SOPs followed
As per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), 130 passengers on board have been shifted from the aircraft to the passenger lounge at the airport. The airline has provided necessary assistance to the passengers.
Further details about the departure of the flight will be shared after the technical clearance of the aircraft by engineering and fire safety teams.
The incident triggered an emergency response at Toronto Airport, but no fire or smoke was immediately confirmed. PIA reiterated that the safety of passengers remains its top priority.
