A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostess was arrested at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore for smuggling foreign currency, according to a private TV channel report on Saturday.
Customs officials detained the air hostess from a foreign-bound flight on suspicion of illegal activity. Upon inspection, Customs DC Raja Bilal reported that she was found concealing Saudi Riyals worth Rs. 140,000 in her socks.
The air hostess was subsequently handed over to the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department after a case was registered.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of PIA employees, including air hostesses, being involved in illegal activities such as narcotics smuggling. It is also noted that slipping cases, where employees attempt to bypass security measures, have been reported in Canada and other Western countries. Once a top global airline, PIA is now in crisis and undergoing privatization efforts.
