ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) leader Pervaiz Elahi on Monday arrived in Banigala, the residence of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The crucial meeting comes amid reports that Prime Minister Imran Khan has agreed to give Punjab chief minister’s slot to Pervaiz Elahi, who is currently Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
The development comes after PTI delegation led by Asad Umar and Shah Mehmood Qureshi reached out to Pervaiz Elahi after a no-trust motion was moved against Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar. During the meeting, Asad Umar reportedly conveyed an important message of the prime minister to Pervaiz Elahi.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Foreign Minister Qureshi said the talks were held in a good manner. Pervaiz Elahi hinted of ‘progress’ on the situation, while Moonis Elahi said the PML-Q had cordial relations with all sides, both individually and collectively.
The meeting comes after the opposition submitted a no-trust motion against Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in the Punjab Assembly secretariat. Opposition MPAs Rana Mashood and Samiullah Khan submitted the motion with signatures of more than 100 members belonging to the opposition.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervez Elahi is bound to convene an assembly session within 14 days after the submission of the motion. The chief minister will not be able to dissolve the assembly now as a no-trust motion has been filed against him.
