MULTAN: The Punjab government has finally ordered the removal of containers placed from roads leading to and entrances of the Qasim Bagh Stadium, the venue for the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) today’s rally.
According to details, the orders were issued after consultation between the higher authorities of the province. Following the orders, the roads leading towards Qila Qasim Bagh are being cleared and the containers are being removed.
Containers were placed at Bahawalpur Toll Plaza, Super Chowk, Milad Chowk, Super Bypass Khanweal, Multan Road and other areas to restrict the workers of the opposition parties from entering Multan for public gathering.
Meanwhile, cellular services also have been suspended in Multan on the recommendations of the provincial government.
The Punjab government remained at odds with PDM activists as the latter attempted to prepare the venue for the rally. Dozens of activists, including son of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Ali Qasim Gilani, were arrested by the police in this regard.
The provincial government was adamant about not allowing the PDM to hold the rally in light of the federal government’s ban on holding public gatherings amid the second wave of COVID-19.
