ISLAMABAD: The opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), has nominated former Prime Minister and PPP senior leader Yousaf Raza Gilani as its joint candidate for the upcoming election for the post of Senate chairperson.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad today (Monday). PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, and Raja Pervez Ashraf are also in attendance.
The meeting of the Opposition party heads is also discussing a future strategy to oust the PTI-led federal government. The high-level huddle is also reportedly evaluating the situation after Prime Minister Imran’s vote of confidence and the overall political situation in the country.
The PDM leadership is also discussing its strategy for the long march. A special committee suggested that the long march should start from Karachi on March 26, with all processions should reaching Islamabad by March 30.
The committee further said a poem be prepared to mobilise the people for the long march and that the traders, farmers and trade unions should be contacted and mobilised.
The PDM has previously announced a long march to Islamabad on March 26. In this regard, Fazlur Rehman had earlier clarified that the Opposition’s leaders and workers will sit there and protest against the government till their demands are met.
