PCB set to announce Test squad today as Babar Azam likely to replace Shan

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to announce the national Test squad on Saturday, with the national selection committee also expected to unveil the country’s new red-ball captain during a press conference at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

According to the PCB, the press conference will begin at 11am and will be addressed by members of the national selection committee.

While the board has not officially disclosed the agenda beyond the squad announcement, sources said the PCB is likely to confirm former skipper Babar Azam as Pakistan’s new Test captain, replacing Shan Masood.

Sources added that Babar is expected to attend the press conference alongside newly appointed head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and members of the selection committee.

The development comes after senior PCB officials reportedly held meetings with Babar to finalise outstanding matters ahead of the announcement.

If confirmed, the appointment would mark Babar’s return to the Test captaincy as Pakistan look to rebuild their red-ball fortunes following a challenging run in the format.

The PCB has yet to officially confirm the change in leadership, and the expected announcement will be made during the press conference later today.
