KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed fines on Peshawar Zalmi players for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Pakistan Super League 2021 match against Karachi Kings on Wednesday.
PCB said Zalmi were found an over short of their target after taking into account time allowances and, as such, were charged under Article 2.22 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with the minimum over-rate offenses.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the players have been fined 10 percent of their match fees. Zalmi captain Shoaib Malik accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Iftikhar Ahmed. The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Shozab Raza and third umpire Ahsan Raza.
Karachi Kings on Wednesday beat Peshawar Zalmi by six wickets to dethrone them as league leaders in Pakistan Super League’s match 13 at National Stadium Karachi.
As per details, a 118-run partnership between Babar Azam and Mohammad Nabi helped the Kings secure victory. Babar Azam remained unbeaten, scoring 77 runs off 47 balls.
Karachi Kings were given a target of 189 runs by the Peshawar Zalmi and the home team chased it with three balls to spare.
Early in the innings, the Kings were in trouble when they lost three wickets for 43 runs by the end of the seventh over.
The Kings lost Mohammad Nabi after he made 67 during the 17th over with the team still requiring 28 runs from 21 balls. However, Babar Azam did not let that hinder the team’s chances for a victory.
Earlier, Peshawar was asked to bat first by Karachi Kings after Imad Wasim won the toss. Peshawar was looking to set a below-par score after they lost three wickets in the powerplay at just 39 runs due to the two-wicket over by debutant Abbas Afridi.
