The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing backlash for not fulfilling its promises to the national women’s cricket team. Despite repeated public statements about increasing support for women’s cricket, including salary increments, the PCB has failed to pay the players for several months, causing growing frustration among the team.
Earlier this year, the PCB announced a 3% salary increase for women players. However, five months later, the promised raise remains unimplemented, and no payments have been made. Players have expressed their dissatisfaction privately, with many becoming increasingly disillusioned by the board’s inaction.
The issue was first highlighted by Sana Mir, former captain of the national women’s team and a current member of the Women’s Cricket Association (WCA). Mir revealed that the cricketers have not received their salaries for the last 5-6 months, nor have they received the contracts that were promised to them.
This delay in payments has cast doubt on the PCB’s recent claims of commitment to developing women’s cricket. In August, the board had unveiled ambitious plans for the women’s game, including expanding grassroots initiatives and enhancing financial incentives to attract more talent. However, these promises are now being questioned in light of the current situation.
The delay in payments comes amid broader criticism of the PCB’s administrative handling, particularly in its management of domestic cricket, delays in issuing central contracts, and ongoing financial difficulties.
The PCB has yet to release an official statement addressing the unpaid salaries or the delay in the salary hike. Players and fans are now calling for immediate action to resolve the issue, which is threatening to affect the team’s morale and preparation for upcoming events.
