ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday softened his stance and urged the nation to support the cricket team during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, sources close to him revealed.
“The consultation is underway, and it is not appropriate to discuss [the matter] at this stage,” said Naqvi in response to reporters’ questions outside the parliament in Islamabad.
When asked about potential actions following the team’s poor performance, Naqvi advised the public to “wait for the tournament’s final result” as matches are still ongoing.
The Green Shirts have lost two out of three matches and are at risk of an early exit from the tournament. Their progression to the Super 8 stage depends on the outcomes of other matches.
Naqvi emphasized the importance of national support, stating, “We have to move ahead” with the current team. He reiterated that everyone is hopeful for the team’s success.
Earlier in the week, Naqvi expressed disappointment following Pakistan’s loss to India, suggesting that the team might require significant changes and a major overhaul.
Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged that the defeat against India was particularly disappointing and that he is aware of the internal issues contributing to the team’s losses.
“I thought a minor surgery would suffice, but after this poor performance, I’m now convinced that a major overhaul is necessary. The nation will soon see substantial changes,” he added.
