KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has said that Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) allotted 3,00,000 tons of wheat to the province.
During a conference, the chief minister said that the provisional government would overcome the wheat flour crisis in the province by 22nd January.
He said that that the wheat allocated to Sindh by the PASSCO was being transported from Punjab and Balochistan.
He further said that the wheat supply to the province was delayed due to a recent goods transport strike. and 70,000 bags of wheat have been transported to Karachi, while 50,000 bags will reach on Tuesday.
In this regard, the federal government would import wheat to avert a full-blown crisis in the country, after the approval of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet today.
In order to maintain the stocks at the minimum level of 0.2 million tons, the Prime Minister Imran Khan has decide to import 0.2 or 0.3 million tons of wheat probably from the Central Asian Republics (CARs) or Australia or any other part of the world with the approval of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.
