The Punjab government announced a breakthrough by conducting a successful experiment with local artificial rain technology, which the Meteorological Department confirmed.
Rain was reported in Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, and Gujar Khan due to “cloud seeding,” and rain is possible in Lahore as well. Experts praised the achievement, noting its potential to reduce smog.
The initiative involved collaboration among Pakistan’s SPD, Army Aviation, PARCO, EPA, and the Punjab government.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb congratulated the team for their efforts, highlighting the milestone achieved with indigenous expertise.
It should be noted that, nowadays, various cities in Punjab, particularly Lahore and Multan, are facing the worst smog in history. The government has announced the closure of all educational institutions until November 25 in these two cities. Additionally, both cities will also undergo a full lockdown on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until the smog situation improves.
Yesterday, reports indicated that due to the severe smog in the province, more than 2 million people, including children, have fallen ill over the past month.
