Shahzaib Khan set multiple records during Pakistan’s thrilling victory over India in the opening match of the Asian Cricket Council’s U19 Asia Cup 2024 on Saturday at Dubai Stadium.
Pakistan triumphed by 44 runs, defeating their long-time rivals India in the group stage match. Pakistan posted a commanding total of 281/7 in their 50 overs, led by Khan’s incredible 159 off 147 balls.
Born in Mansehra, Shahzaib Khan made history with his knock, which included five boundaries and 10 sixes. His 159 runs is now the highest individual score ever made by a batter against India in an Under-19 match. The previous record was held by Pakistan’s Sami Aslam, who had scored 134 runs against India in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.
Khan also set the record for the highest score by a Pakistan batter in an Under-19 One-Day match, surpassing Shamyl Hussain’s 150 runs against Sri Lanka in Karachi in 2023. Additionally, his 10 sixes are the most ever hit by a Pakistan Under-19 player.
Shahzaib joins the prestigious list of batters who have scored memorable centuries against India U19, including Colin Ackermann’s 129 for South Africa in 2009 and Kadeer Ali’s 125 for England in 2002.
India’s chase of 282 runs fell short as they were bowled out for 239 runs in just 47 overs, losing by 44 runs. In another setback for India, IPL cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed for just 1 run.
