Pakistan’s Ahsan Ayaz is set to take on Egypt’s Mohamed Sharaf today in the final of the 247 International Squash Championship, held in the United States.
Ayaz secured his spot in the final with a series of impressive performances, including a dominant semi-final victory.
In the semi-final, Ayaz delivered a commanding performance, defeating Egypt’s Karim Elbarbary with a decisive 3-0 scoreline. The set scores were 11-3, 11-7, and 11-0. Earlier, in the quarter-final, Ayaz had also triumphed over fellow Pakistani Fawad Khalil, winning with scores of 11-7, 11-5, and 11-5.
The final, which features a total prize pool of $3,000, will see the second-seeded Ayaz face the third-seeded Sharaf. The match is highly anticipated and promises to be an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
Ayaz expressed his enthusiasm for reaching the semi-finals in a post on his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) on September 14. He wrote: “Excited to have made it to the Semi-Final of the 247 International Squash Championship 2024 in NJ, USA. Looking forward to facing Karim Elbarbary of Egypt today at 4PM EST.”
The championship match is scheduled for today, September 15, and will determine the winner of the tournament.
This remarkable achievement follows Ayaz’s recent victory at the Colleyville Open Squash 2024 on September 1, where he claimed the title by defeating Yash Bhargava with a score of 3-1. The final scores were 11-6, 8-11, 11-3, and 11-8. The Colleyville Open also featured a prize pool of $3,000.
