While the official federal calendar only mandates two public holidays, the calendar layout creates perfect opportunities for extended rest.
The time off is driven by a mix of national pride, religious observance, and weekend timing.
The Independence Day Long Weekend
Friday, August 14, marks Pakistan’s Independence Day. Because it falls on a Friday, employees with standard five-day work weeks will automatically enjoy a continuous three-day weekend spanning August 14 to August 16.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi
The 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal is expected to fall on Tuesday, August 25. This religious holiday guarantees a mid-week break for the general public, subject to the final moon sighting.
Beyond the specialized holidays, regular calendar weekends account for the remaining rest days of the month.
Public and private sector employees are already looking at ways to maximize this schedule. By taking a single strategic annual leave day on Monday, August 24, workers can effectively link the weekend with the Eid Milad-un-Nabi holiday to create another four-day block of rest.
