ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Sunday dispatched another consignment of relief goods for Turkey’s s earthquake quake victims as the death toll there climbed to 24,617. Almost 26 million people have been affected by the earthquake, the World Health Organization (WHO) said as it launched a flash appeal on Saturday for $42.8 million to cope with immediate health needs.

According to the country’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), another consignment of nearly 5 tons of relief goods, including blankets, and winterized tents was dispatched through a Pakistan International Airlines flight.
This comes just a day after PM Shehbaz announced to set up air, sea, and road corridor to dispatch relief goods to the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria.
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already set up a relief fund for the collection of funds and relief goods for the earthquake victims of the two countries, aside from forming a Cabinet committee to coordinate and oversee the countrywide relief efforts.

AJK government sets up relief fund for quake victims
Meanwhile, the Azad Kashmir (AJK) government has set up a “special relief fund” for the earthquake victims of the two countries.
Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Tanvir Ilyas, announced the formation of the fund following a Cabinet’s approval on Saturday. He called upon philanthropists and common people to donate generously to their Turkish and Syrian brethren.
“When AJK was hit by a disastrous quake in 2005, the govt&people of Türkiye were the 1st to rush to our aid. Today, it’s time to reciprocate the favor,” he said in a tweet.
The AJK Cabinet and assembly members, as well as employees from grade 6 to 22, will donate their five-day salary to the quake victims.
