ISLAMABAD: Pakistan witnessed a minor drop in coronavirus infections on Monday even though the number of cases continues to remain above seven thousand mark.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 7,048 cases and 21 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,425,039 while the death toll stands at 29,269.
The positivity ratio was recorded at 11.53%, while the number of active cases has increased to 104,045 after the recent surge in cases. There were 61,077 tests were conducted in the previous day leading to new cases. There are 1,423 people who still remain in critical condition. Overall 1,294,725 people have recovered from the virus, including 2,987 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 541,693 cases and 7,821 deaths while there are 46,314 active cases. Punjab has recorded 478,527 cases and 13,160 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has also surged to 28,745. Islamabad has recorded 127,497 cases and 980 deaths while there are 15,014 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 194,166 and 5,998 deaths, while Balochistan has reported 34,390 cases and 367 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 10,651 cases and 188 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 38,115 cases and 755 deaths.
The NCOC had imposed non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on January 19, which were to be reviewed on January 27 in light of the COVID-19 situation in the country. The restrictions for the wedding sector were already imposed till Feb 15.
