KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 85,264 in Pakistan today, while the death toll stands at 1,770.
The country reported the highest COVID-19 cases in a single day. According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 4,688 cases of coronavirus were reported while 82 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 28,930 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
According to the official statistics, authorities have so far conducted 595,344 tests across the country. Around 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
The nationwide tally of COVID-19 patients stands at 85,264 with 31,104 cases in Punjab, 32,910 in Sindh, 11,373 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 5,224 in Balochistan, 824 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 3,544 in Islamabad and 285 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Out of a total of 1,770 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 500 deaths, Sindh 555, Balochistan 51, Gilgit-Baltistan 12, Punjab 607, Azad Kashmir 07 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 38 deaths.
There are rapidly increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country, the government, however, continues to downplay the pandemic threat.
Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan has repeatedly spoken against imposing a nationwide lockdown to contain the virus spread. During his last media conference, he had announced the resumption of tourism activities in the country.
