A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) has revealed that 55 civilians and 47 security personnel lost their lives in terrorist attacks during February, while 81 security officials and 45 civilians sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, targeted operations by security forces resulted in the elimination of 156 terrorists.
According to the think tank’s findings, civilian deaths surged by 175% in February compared to January, whereas security personnel casualties dropped by 18%.
The last time such a high number of civilian casualties were recorded was in August 2024. While the overall number of terror incidents saw a slight rise, the increase in civilian deaths was significant. Security forces also intensified counterterrorism operations, leading to the killing of 156 terrorists, injuries to 20, and the arrest of 66 suspects.
In 79 terrorist incidents across the country, 55 civilians and 47 security personnel were killed, while 81 security officials and 45 civilians were injured. Notably, February marked the first time since August last year that civilian deaths exceeded those of security personnel.
The report also highlighted a 25% decline in terrorist fatalities, as 208 militants were killed in January, compared to 156 in February.
However, arrests of suspected militants saw a significant rise, with 66 individuals detained—the highest number since December 2023, when 139 arrests were made.
