ISLAMABAD: As many as 2,615 new cases of the coronavirus were reported across the country during the past 24 hours, pushing the national to 457,288.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 80 more people succumbed to the infection during this period, taking the death toll from the disease to 9,330, while tere are still 40,553 active cases in the country.
The positivity ratio of fresh Covid-19 cases stands at 7.02 per cent, the NCOC said. A total of 37,206 samples were tested in the previous 24 hours, out of which 2,615 turned out to be positive. A total of 407,405 patients have recuperated from the disease thus far including 2,904 in the previous day.
Sindh has reported the highest number 204,103 cases. They are 21,004 active cases and 3,319 deaths in the province. Punjab has reported 131,428 cases so far, while the total of active case is 7,927 and 3,604 deaths.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 54,948 cases, 1,536 deaths while the total number of active cases stands at 4,509, while Balochistan has recorded 17,909 cases, 179 death and has 421 active cases. Islamabad 36,117 has reported, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 7,961, and Gilgit Baltistan 4,822.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has said that the main reasons for the deteriorating situation of COVID-19 in different major cities were factors such as weather and living conditions.
“If the people were careful, the war against COVID-19 could be won quickly, otherwise the government would be forced to take tough decisions,” he said, adding following the standard operation procedures (SOPs) were essential to curtail the spread of Covid-19.
He said that rising daily deaths ratio was a matter of concern and if the implementation of SOPs was not ensured, the situation could be worse. He expressed satisfaction with the steps taken by the government but appeal to the people to understand the gravity of the situation.
