ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has recorded and 2,351 fresh cases and 61 more deaths in the past 24 hours as the situation worsen from the coronavirus across the country.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the coronavirus has claimed 61 more lives, taking the overall death toll to 13,656.
The total count of active cases is 22,792. In the past 24 hours, as many as 2,853 patients have recovered from the virus in a day and 1,978 patients are still in critical condition.
The national tally of cases now currently stands at 612,315. A total of 38,799 tests were conducted across the country during this period. Overall 575,867 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far while 9,603,865 samples have been tested thus far.
Meanwhile, the NCOV has decided to allow people aged 70 years and above, who have registered themselves on the helpline 1166, to walk into any vaccination centre to get inoculated against Covid-19.
According to an official statement issued following the NCOC meeting, people were requested to ensure vaccination of senior citizens as most mortality cases were being reported in the old age group.
In another development, President Dr Arif Alvi and First Lady Samina Alvi received their jabs at a vaccination centre in Tarlai in the suburbs of Islamabad.
The Sindh government has decided to engage private hospitals and laboratories in COVID-19 mass vaccination programme and encourage the private health sector to import coronavirus vaccine, allocate human resources and establish vaccination centre especially in Karachi.
The decisions were taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the CM House, which was attended by provincial ministers, adviser law, chief secretary and relevant secretaries.
There are nearly 262,000 coronavirus cases emerged in the province while the virus has also claimed 4,468 lives while 253,041 patients recovered from the disease.
The health department apprised the cabinet that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the provincial response to combat coronavirus was characterised by mixed public and private delivery of care.
